ABOUT US

#meaningfuladventures

Curious. Conscious. Connected

Sticky Rice Travel began as a two-person passion project, rooted in a deep love for Borneo’s wild places. Now Sabah’s most trusted travel company, we’re powered by our Kota Kinabalu team and region’s top guides. We craft meaningful journeys that go beyond the ordinary where each one is designed with intention and rooted in respect for wild places and the communities who call them home.

From the moment you reach out to us until the final step of your adventure, we are here to ensure your experience is seamless, enriching, and deeply memorable.

BEHIND THE ADVENTURE

Our love for Malaysian Borneo runs deep, from its wild rainforests and remarkable wildlife to the cultural diversity that makes it so special. We are guided by a long-term commitment to sustainability, working to minimise our impact while supporting local communities through meaningful partnerships and training. As we invest in the places we go, we also invest in our team to raise the bar for responsible travel in Borneo and lead by example.

YOUR WILDLIFE CALENDAR

NOV – JAN

RAINFOREST NIGHTS & HERPING SEASON

Cool, misty evenings bring the rainforest to life. A prime time for herping around Mt. Kinabalu and Poring Hot Springs, with chances to spot rare species and experience the forest at its most enchanting.

FEB – APR

BIRDS ON THE MOVE

Migration season begins, with colourful visitors passing through Sabah’s forests. Breeding activity peaks in the montane highlands, and dry-season weather makes trekking crisp and comfortable.

MAY  – AUG

FRUITING FORESTS & ABUNDANT WILDLIFE

The forest enters its fruiting peak; a magnet for birds and mammals. Cultural celebrations like Kaamatan bring Sabah’s warmth alive, while coastal areas offer a chance to witness turtle hatchings.

SEP – OCT

QUIET FORESTS & RETURNING BIRDS

A calmer rhythm settles in as fruiting slows. Migratory species begin to return, creating excellent conditions for photography, trekking, and mindful nature exploration.
